Investigators of the investigative unit of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Chelyabinsk have completed the investigation of a multi-episode criminal case on fraud initiated under part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation against a 19-year-old local resident.
According to investigators, the accused, who was previously convicted of committing similar crimes, offered his friends to issue credit cards in one of the banks for further investment of the funds received on the online digital currency exchange service and making a profit. The victims issued credit cards, after which they transferred money to the settlement accounts indicated by them. To confirm the truthfulness of his words, the attacker sent screenshots from the financial platform indicating the current profit received. In reality, the reporting was unreliable – the young man made it using a graphic editor. The defendant did not conduct any activities on the electronic platform and did not perform any financial transactions. He spent the money on his own entertainment, not planning to return it to the victims. In order to get more profit, the attacker offered his "investors" to involve their friends and acquaintances in this scheme.
After the time elapsed, without waiting for either interest or a return on the invested funds, the deceived citizens turned to the police. Illegal activity of the malefactor was stopped by operatives of the operational-detective department of the criminal investigation department of the City Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Investigators established 49 episodes of his criminal activity. The total damage caused to the injured residents of the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions amounted to more than 2 million rubles.
The materials of the criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor were sent to the Kalininsky District Court of Chelyabinsk for consideration on the merits.
