The investigator of the Department of Internal Affairs for the Southern Administrative District of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow has completed a preliminary investigation of a criminal case on charges of a man and a woman in nine episodes of fraud.
According to the police, the attackers used advertising on the Internet to offer citizens super-profits from investments in the amount of 20 to 80 % per annum, positioning their activities as a distributor of non-ferrous and ferrous metal on the Russian market. In respectable offices, potential victims were shown presentations about the success, transparency and prospects of business projects.
Depositors registered on the company's website, and after depositing funds, they installed a mobile application where they could allegedly view information on the amount of dividends and track various financial transactions. In fact, the program was a simulator, and the profit was only virtual.
In addition, scammers promised additional income to clients who attracted new investors. In reality, there was no investment activity, and the funds of trusting investors were stolen and distributed among the group members. The amount of damage caused to the victims amounted to 3.62 million rubles.
The illegal activities of the accomplices were stopped in April last year by employees of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow. Then, as a result of operational search activities in Yekaterinburg, the organizer of an illegal business was detained – he was given a preventive measure in the form of detention. His accomplice, who accumulated and distributed funds, was detained in the capital. A preventive measure in the form of recognizance not to leave and proper behavior was chosen against her.
Currently, the criminal case has been sent to the Basmanny District Court of Moscow for consideration on the merits.
