Trust Wallet under fire for reporting iMessage vulnerability.

Trust Wallet has called on Apple users to disable iMessage because of information about a critical zero-day vulnerability that allows hackers to seize control of smartphones.

According to Trust Wallet, the vulnerability allows an attacker to break into the system and control the device. It doesn't even require the user to click on the link (Zero Click). The vulnerability is particularly dangerous for account holders with a significant amount of funds in their account. All crypto wallets on iPhone with iMessage activated are under threat.

Trust Wallet director Eowyn Chen shared a screenshot that she says shows the exploit, which is being sold on the darknet for $2 million.

Eowyn Chen's message about the exploit

However, the crypto community reacted skeptically to Chen's message. Cryptanalysts said that it is impossible to believe information from one screenshot without providing evidence. Moreover, such a warning can cause panic. In the first 4 hours after publication, the Trust Wallet warning was viewed by more than 1.2 million users.

After a wave of doubts from experts, Trust Wallet wrote that information about the zero-day vulnerability was received from the security team and partners who constantly monitor threats.

Web3 and metaverse researcher MetaRyuk said that the site only shows the price of the exploit, without a demo version or confirmation of authenticity. In addition, the site itself does not have a reputation on the darknet and may turn out to be fraudulent, like other similar sites. The specialist stressed that at this stage there are not enough details to assess the level of confidence in the offer.

Apple did not comment on the situation.
