During the pre-trial investigation, the police found that a resident of Odessa organized a criminal group, involving two acquaintances in it. Malefactors under the guise of benefactors who are allegedly abroad, called the military, representatives of the clergy, volunteer organizations, said that they wanted to transfer a car or other humanitarian aid to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for free, but the necessary funds to deliver charitable aid to the necessary destination. And misled citizens transferred money to the accounts indicated by pseudo-volunteers.

To ensure that the victims did not doubt the charity intentions of the scammers, during telephone conversations, they created the feeling that a car or other cargo was already on its way - the noise of a busy roadway, vehicle signals, and so on.

Thus, the "benefactors" managed to deceive 14 gullible citizens and seize their money in the amount of more than 280 thousand hryvnias. They withdrew funds from bank accounts, divided them among themselves and spent them on their own needs, and stopped contacting victims.

After collecting enough evidence, the police charged the three defendants:

- under Part 2 and 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (as amended by Law of Ukraine No. 2997-IX of 21.03.2023) and Part 5 of Article 190 of the same Code-taking possession of someone else's property by deception, committed repeatedly, by prior agreement by a group of persons, committed by an organized group. Including complicity in the commission of these crimes (Part 5 of Article 27 of the Criminal Code);

- under part 2 and 3 of Article 209-possession, disposal, change of form (transformation) of property, concerning which actual circumstances indicate its receipt by criminal means, committed by a person who knew that such property was directly and completely obtained by criminal means, committed by prior agreement by a group of persons, an organized group, in particular repeatedly.

The events were conducted by employees of the Department of Countering Cybercrime in the Odessa region, investigators of the investigative Department and the Department of Criminal Analysis of the State Tax Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
