Is it possible that artificial intelligence will soon make human labor obsolete?

At the recent Artificial intelligence security summit in Bletchley Park, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, expressed the opinion that artificial intelligence will become the most destructive force in history and can lead to the disappearance of the need for human labor. "For the first time, we will have something that is smarter than the smartest person," Musk said. He suggested that there will come a time when it will not be necessary to work, and people will be able to do business only for personal satisfaction, since artificial intelligence will be able to do any work.

Musk compared artificial intelligence to a magic genie that fulfills wishes, and predicted that in the future, people will be able to get whatever they want without having to work for the public good. "We will probably not have a universal basic income, but a universal high income, "he said, suggesting that this will be a kind of equalizer, since everyone will have access to the"magic gin".

However, such forecasts are not shared by all experts. Mustafa Suleiman, co-founder of the DeepMind artificial intelligence lab, disagreed with Musk. "He's not a scientist in the field of artificial intelligence," Suleiman said in an interview with the BBC, emphasizing that Musk's competence is more in the field of space and cars. Suleiman acknowledged that concerns about generative artificial intelligence are justified, but believes that it is too early to say that artificial intelligence will replace human labor.

At the summit, which brought together policy makers from around the world, the Bletchley Declaration was signed by 29 countries and the European Union, emphasizing the importance of a collective approach to AI security, developing a scientific understanding of risks, and creating risk-based policies tailored to each country's unique circumstances. Earlier at the summit, Elon Musk and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak discussed the need for physical "switches” for AI to prevent potentially dangerous robot behavior.

Generative artificial intelligence, which uses hints to create images, texts, music, and videos, has attracted a lot of interest since the public launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT last year and GPT-4 in March. Its use to create more detailed and realistic deepfakes has led world leaders to sound the alarm about the use of the technology and the need to set limits to prevent the spread of misinformation.
