The investigative unit for the investigation of organized criminal activities of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug established that crimes were committed on the territory of correctional institutions of the Ulyanovsk Region's penal system by persons sentenced to long sentences, with the complicity of persons who were at large.

According to the developed criminal scheme, the attackers made calls to victims living in the territories of different regions, mainly the Far Eastern Federal District, and posing as employees of the supervisory authority, under the pretext of the upcoming inspection, convinced the victims to transfer money to the numbers of bank cards controlled by an organized group to pay for flowers, gifts and other goods for the inspection commission. After the stolen funds were transferred to controlled accounts, they were cashed out by members of the criminal group who were at large, and the resulting criminal income was distributed to the needs of the organized group.

The activities of the organized group were stopped by the employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug after committing another crime against a resident of the district.

Thus, one of the members of an organized group who made a deal with the investigation and confessed to the criminal scheme is accused of committing 8 crimes under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and 6 crimes under Part 3 of Article 30-Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The damage caused by the actions of this criminal group amounted to over one million rubles.

The investigation has collected sufficient evidence, and the prosecutor in the criminal case has approved the indictment. Other members of the criminal group are still being investigated.
