A group of carders were able to install skimmers at 16 Walmart stores in downtown and south New York and Maine. According to local TV channel News Channel 9, we are talking about a group of three people caught on surveillance cameras who installed their devices on top of real terminals for paying by cards.

So far, the police have not been able to figure out how many people were affected by the skimmers, which in some cases were installed for at least four days. Walmart shoppers who paid with credit cards at any of the 16 affected stores were advised to closely monitor their card statements and report unauthorized charges to banks and local police.

As for the devices themselves, the State Police's Computer Crime Unit found that they were battery-powered and could read input information from the terminal's keyboard. Investigators are not yet able to say whether these skimmers "can" remember data from card chips. At the same time, Bluetooth-enabled antennas were found on them, allowing the transfer of stolen information in real time.

The suspects included two men and one woman. While one person attracted the cashier's attention with his purchases, his accomplice took out a skimmer and attached it to the top of the terminal. The woman played the role of a wall that covered these actions from the eyes of other buyers.
