The path of an information security incident to widespread fame is thorny. While the world is discussing data leaks from the next major companies and government agencies in different countries, we suggest that we talk about much more modest hacks.

In this article, we will continue to deal with import substitution of the strangest small information security incidents. In the previous part, we talked about the difficult fate of a Russian hacker. This article is dedicated to what exactly novice specialists and their more experienced colleagues break.

Passion and Social Media Scams

Hacking VK and other social media accounts is a popular activity for those who do not consider themselves hackers. The motive for such an action is not always any financial gain or a desire to use the page for fraudulent purposes. Sometimes hackers want simple human joys.

A resident of Kursk hacked someone else's account to correspond with women on behalf of the page owner. He tried to delete messages quickly, but the real owner of the account still noticed something was wrong. As a result, a lover of romantic correspondence from a stranger paid a fine of 10 thousand rubles.

In the Tula region, a woman went even further and created a fake page on VKontakte to save her friend from loneliness and alcohol addiction. The target was a firefighter from Syktyvkar, on whose behalf the savior corresponded. When the woman needed fresh photos, she tried to hack the real pages of the firefighter and his wife in social networks. A, angry at the man's refusal to take over the correspondence, found out his home address and called the police on it under a far-fetched pretext.

Unlike VK, the hacking of TG, that is, the popular Telegram messenger, continues to make headlines mainly due to fraud. Either the mayor allegedly writes to an employee of the administration from Reutov from a fake account and tells about the data leak, or relatives and friends of Penza officials will receive standard requests to transfer money urgently after the" epidemic " of hacking.

Hack to talk

Another emerging trend is to leave messages for service users or just thousands of passers-by after hacking. The last person to score was a man who hacked a ticker on a high-rise building of the SIA Press news agency in Surgut. What for? To leave on the screen the current dollar exchange rate and obscene language addressed to the president. The burglar timed the event perfectly: the festival had just ended and the maximum number of people was on the street in the center of Surgut.

Don't have a running line handy? Maps in apps that have been hacked en masse in recent months to rename map items will work. After hacking OpenStreetMap, the names of Pskov streets, as well as rivers and mountains in the area of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve and Krasnaya Polyana were changed. In Cherepovets, the incident was repeated with an application for tracking public transport in the city. In Rostov-on-Don, hackers targeted a popular parental app for tracking a child's geolocation. The most censorious of the new titles is "The Ruble is dead"; quoting the rest can lead to charges of discrediting the armed forces of the Russian Federation and insulting government officials.

And the plant-for what?

Hackers do not live on the same social networks and applications. They did not ignore the Russian industry either. A resident of the Tambov region was sentenced to one year and five months of probation for attacking the Kirsanovsky sugar factory. The man did not manage to bring it to its logical conclusion, but the employees of the local FSB department easily identified the amateur hacker.

You can do without a TV

Residents of several Russian regions at once tried to leave without satellite television. On the websites of the administration of the Vyshnevolotsky City District of the Tver Region, the city of Lyubertsy of the Moscow Region, the Institute of Design and Technological Informatics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a number of other institutions, after hacking, there were demands to urgently dismantle Tricolor TV equipment from their homes, which can be used to correct fire. The authorities quickly assured the frightened citizens that the information was not true.

Amateurs and professionals of surveillance

In Tula, a fan of "hot shots" was convicted who used his laptop to spy on a woman he didn't know. With the help of malware, the man hacked about 20 devices of other users. He followed the victim through the webcam of her laptop. In the case file, there is a recording of the convict's laptop screen, on which the image was broadcast from the device of a half-naked woman.

A professional private detective worked in Tyumen. When he was approached by one of the 56 thousand people who searched Yandex for the service "hacking the former" only in the last month, Tyumen Sherlock Holmes needed the help of a hacker. In this tandem, they forged a notarized power of attorney to reissue the SIM card, but they could not activate the duplicate. The real owner turned not only to the "hotline" of the mobile operator, but also to the police. Bottom line: two years of probation.

Brisk trading

Just two hackers from today's selection hacked anything for openly commercial purposes. A minor talent from Cherepovets developed malware for data theft and distributed it on Telegram. The investigation believes that the young hacker successfully sold the stolen data.

In Chelyabinsk detained the suspect in trade in logins and passwords from the state Internet services. An active hacker was particularly active and hacked more than a thousand accounts. According to preliminary data, he used the same Telegram for the sale.

And even Minecraft

In Surgut, not only the running line of a high-rise building in the very center is in danger, but also a virtual copy of the city in a popular computer game. A local resident who spent four years recreating the central part of the city in the game complained about hacking Minecraft. According to him, hackers destroyed half of the digital Surgut, which he is going to revive. The man sees possible motives for such an act in the fact that earlier other fans of the game accused him of stealing someone else's idea.

A decent shift for hackers

This is the only news from the article that did not involve hacking or even attempting it. In Nizhny Novgorod, courses for pensioners train "Silver hackers".

If you thought that a group of elderly Nizhny Novgorod hackers will soon thunder to the whole world of information security, then no. There is nothing illegal in the course program. On the contrary, students learn extremely necessary skills in the modern world: they learn to send utility meter readings online and perform simple operations in online banking, understand the icons of applications on their smartphone, and even get basic skills to protect their data from fraudsters.

After getting acquainted with the program, only one question remains: "Why hackers?". But that's a different story altogether…

Results: what is being attacked, how is it being attacked

Only a part of the heroes of the article attacked objects for profit. The options range from classic fraud schemes to attempts to illegally obtain a printout of calls or sell personal data.

Other fans of hacking something seem to have done it solely at the call of the heart or just from the position of "and talk". Hacking games, popular apps, and even the page of an unknown person on a social network are suitable for this purpose.
