The mobile accessories giant is doing everything possible to minimize the impact of the incident.

Targus, a manufacturer of bags and accessories for mobile devices, faced operational problems due to a cyberattack that occurred on the fifth of April. In a statement released yesterday, B. Riley Financial, the parent company of Targus, reported unauthorized access to some Targus file systems and the subsequent shutdown of most of its network to isolate the incident.

According to the statement, the situation is currently under control, and active work is underway to restore the Targus systems. The company did not specify which operations were disrupted and when they will return to normal.

The details of the cyberattack have been revealed thanks to a new rule introduced by the US securities regulator, which requires public companies to disclose information about cyber attacks on their subsidiaries, if such attacks can significantly affect investors, within 96 hours after they are detected.

It is not known whether the data of Targus customers was stolen as a result of the penetration, but the company has stated its intention to cooperate with law enforcement agencies regarding unauthorized access to information.

Founded in 1983, Targus is a popular mobile electronics brand and accessories manufacturer. B. Riley acquired Targus in 2022 for $ 250 million.

The incident clearly demonstrates the importance of reliable cybersecurity in modern business. Despite the advanced technologies and popularity of the brand, even large companies are becoming vulnerable to the actions of cybercriminals.

Managers need to take a serious approach to protecting information systems and continuously improve security measures to prevent such attacks and minimize their consequences. This is the only way to maintain the trust of customers and investors in the face of growing cyber threats.
