In Thailand, a group of three people who were part of a larger community of local carders was busted. They specialized in stealing money from tourists, and the owners of POS terminals helped with this.

Local residents with difficult-to-read and difficult-to-pronounce names came to the attention of the police after a gang of pickpockets was detained. The trio of carders were found with four terminals for plastic, 30 receipts for completed transactions, three mobile phones used to communicate with pickpockets, as well as methamphetamine. Unlike the pickpockets, all the carders turned out to be Thai citizens.

Investigators have determined that credit cards stolen from tourists near a Bangkok landmark were given to the suspects. They colluded with businesses that owned POS terminals to make fake purchases and cash out through them. The commission of device owners was 25-30 percent. The attackers kept only 5-10 percent of the stolen goods for themselves and the pickpockets, sending the rest to the scheme developer from China.

The total damage caused by the group could be about 3 million baht (about 7.5 million rubles), “earned” as a result of 20 transactions.
