MOSCOW, 15 Apr-RIA Novosti. Users can be involved in criminal schemes due to the use of VPN services, in particular in DDoS attacks on state resources, said State Duma Deputy Anton Nemkin.
"Fraudsters also do not stand still in the development of their schemes. So now VPNs are already actively used to involve users in so-called botnets, because of which the user's device may be involved in DDoS attacks, including on state resources," he told RIA Novosti.
He added that it is impossible to completely exclude the possibility that the installed program for building a VPN connection will not contain any additional functionality.
"It is very difficult to understand that you have become a participant in such a criminal scheme; for the user, this may turn out to be an unpleasant surprise at the most inopportune moment," Nemkin said.
