Employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, as a result of a complex of operational search measures, went on the trail and detained three citizens involved in the deception of a 56-year-old resident of the Leningrad region, which was committed in November last year. Then an unknown person, posing as an "investment consultant", convinced the woman by phone to transfer 1.5 million rubles to other people's accounts under the pretext of investing them in gold. The swindler promised a high income, but the victim did not receive her savings or profit back.

The police found that the stolen funds were transferred to bank accounts used by the detained citizens, two of whom – a 26-year-old man and a 22 – year-old girl-are cohabiting partners. According to the preliminary version of operatives, the suspects cashed out the received finances, converted them into cryptocurrency, and then transferred them to fraudsters, leaving themselves a certain amount as a reward.

Police officers found and seized a total of 7 SIM cards and 7 mobile phones, 3 laptops, a USB storage device and 42 bank cards at the place of residence of the cohabitants in the city of Kudrovo in the Leningrad region, as well as in the apartment of the third attacker on Oktyabrskaya Embankment in St. Petersburg.

On the fact of fraud against a 56-year-old woman, the investigative department of the OMVD of Russia in the Volkhovsky district of the Leningrad region opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. All three defendants were detained in accordance with Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation until a preventive measure is chosen. Their involvement in similar embezzlement of money from citizens is established.
