As a result of operational search activities, police officers detained a criminal group consisting of four previously convicted residents of the city of Lodeynoye Pole, Leningrad Region, aged from 31 to 34 years, who are suspected of a series of remote fraud.
It is established that the accomplices opened bank accounts for figureheads and registered more than 70 SIM cards from which they made calls to residents of different regions of the Russian Federation. To the interviewees, they presented themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies or credit organizations and misled them. To some, they reported that their relatives were responsible for an accident, to others-that unknown people were stealing savings from their accounts.
Accomplices convinced victims to transfer money to accounts opened by scammers. The involvement of accomplices in the theft by deception of 3 million rubles from a resident of Novosibirsk was established. However, according to the police, the victims of accomplices can be at least 9 people.
On this fact, the investigative department of the OMVD of Russia in the Lodeynopolsky district opened a criminal case under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Two of the defendants were taken into custody, the rest were released under an obligation to appear.
During searches conducted at the suspects ' places of residence, SIM cards, bank cards, mobile phones, electronic media and cash were found and seized.
According to preliminary data, the attackers transferred the funds received from the victims to pre-registered crypto wallets for conversion.
Currently, operational search measures and investigative actions are being carried out aimed at exposing other members of the organized group and establishing other episodes of criminal activity. The exact number of victims and the amount of damage is also being determined.
