Since 1992, the US army has not needed them. But now everything will change…

In response to the growing threats from rival countries , the US Air Force has come up with a number of innovations to strengthen its technical resources. One of the most interesting moments is the return of the title of "warrant officers", which will be worn only by professionals in the field of information technology and cybersecurity.

Military personnel awarded this title will be ranked between the rank and file and the officer corps. Such soldiers have deep technical knowledge and skills, but are not burdened with command responsibilities. General David Alvin, chief of staff, stressed that they attract talented professionals who want to use their programming skills for the benefit of the country and work in the field of network attacks. He is sure that many will be happy to contribute to America's defense power.

The last of the warrant officers retired in 1992. The title has existed for a very long time: the Air Force adopted it from the US Army when it became a separate unit, in 1947.

Now the duties of warrant officers will be limited: they will be responsible exclusively for the IT infrastructure, although previously such specialists were engaged in a variety of technical and expert work in various fields. Although their commanders could formally hire them after 1992, no one saw the need for more than 30 years.

The Air Force is improving career paths in IT and cybersecurity not only for officers, but also for enlisted personnel. In addition, they raise the status of the cybersecurity unit to an independent command and create an Information Superiority Center.

Although the exact timing and details of the implementation of the plans have not yet been disclosed, representatives of the Air Force emphasize that work on their project is actively underway. Obviously, the command understands that in the modern world, IT technologies play a key role in the defense capability of the army. The United States strives not only to meet current challenges, but also to stay ahead of potential threats in the future.
