The messenger is accused of illegal use of content.

A Spanish court has decided to suspend the operation of the popular Telegram messenger in the country as a security measure for a lawsuit filed by major media companies. The decision was made by the judge of the National Judicial Board Santiago Pedras, reports TASS.

The reason for such a court order was claims from the media giants Mediaset, Atresmedia and Movistar Plus, which in their lawsuit accused Telegram of unauthorized use of audiovisual content protected by copyright. The judge made the decision as part of a request for precautionary measures, which the companies insisted on, so that the messenger's activities in Spain would be paralyzed for the duration of the investigation.

According to a TASS source, Santiago Pedras ordered to block Telegram temporarily, as he did not receive a response from the company to the requested information.

At the moment, the messenger continues to operate in Spain. It is not yet known when exactly the decision to block Telegram will take effect.
