The corporation decided to make verification in its products even safer and faster.

Introduces changes that will help simplify the activation of two-factor authentication (2FA) for users. Now, instead of entering your phone number first, you can immediately add a "second verification method" to your account — an authenticator or a hardware security key.

This approach is more reliable, since, according to the developers, SMS verification does not provide a sufficient level of protection. Users can either use one-time codes from apps like Google Authenticator, or link a physical security key by following the instructions.

For security keys, Google offers two options: register your FIDO credentials on the device itself, or assign the Passkey status to the password. If a user has a Workspace account in an organization and wants to use a digital key, they may also need to enter a password, depending on the company's settings.

The new feature applies to all Workspace users and owners of personal Google accounts. According to the corporation, since the introduction of passkeys technology last year, it has been used by more than 400 million accounts.
