The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has warned residents of the region about a new wave of scams using skimming devices. According to Omaha WOWT, it is aimed primarily at EBT cardholders who receive SNAP benefits on them.

In its release, DHHS said that "some EBT cards have been compromised as a result of fraudulent activity." At the same time, it seems that skimmers most often clone the plastic of their victims. Nebraska notes that the state is trying to develop ways to protect benefits, but those efforts are hampered by the fact that 99 percent of unauthorized purchases occur outside the region.

State officials therefore urged cardholders to register them online and block transactions anywhere other than Nebraska itself. In addition, potential victims were advised to change PIN codes more often and freeze plastic between episodes of use. In addition, some of the affected Americans were victims of phone and text phishing.
