Automatic recognition of unwanted content will protect young users from possible psychological trauma.

Meta, which owns the social network Instagram, recently announced a number of new features aimed at protecting teenagers from unwanted content. These include automatic blurring of photos containing nude parts of the body, as well as warnings for users who send such images.

The new security measures will be enabled by default for Instagram users under the age of 18. Older users, in turn, will be asked to enable these features themselves.

Meta is also developing a technology to identify accounts involved in extortion of intimate photos. Such accounts will have limited opportunities to interact with other users, especially teenagers.

According to Meta representatives, the measures are aimed at protecting teenagers from cyberflashing (systematic offensive banter that can lead to tragedy) and sextortion (blackmail using intimate materials). The company hopes that the new features will help protect young users of the social network from such risks.

Meta has previously taken some steps to protect minors, such as making their accounts private by default. However, the company was still criticized for the fact that such measures are not enough.

Now, perhaps even the most picky critic will be satisfied, because the experience of interaction between teenagers in social networks has become much safer.
