Binance's West and East Africa director Nadeem Anjarwalla has left Nigeria illegally. About this according to local media.

According to them, the top manager was able to escape from custody on March 22 after being taken to a nearby mosque for prayer.

Anjarwalla took off from Abuja on a Middle Eastern airline. The migration service said that he left Nigeria on a Kenyan passport. The country's authorities are trying to find out how the Binance executive, who is a British citizen, could have obtained a travel document and got on an international flight. Earlier it was reported that the passports of the detainees were seized.

One of the sources told the media that Anjarwalla and the second detainee — vice President for global Intelligence and investigations of the exchange Tigran Gambaryan-were able to use mobile phones. This could make planning your escape easier.

On the eve of the incident, the Nigerian authorities charged Anjarwalla, Gambaryan and Binance Holdings Limited with tax evasion on four counts.

These include:

* provision of services without registration with the Federal Tax Service;

* provision of taxable services without invoicing for the determination and payment of value added tax;

* conducting cryptocurrency transactions without deducting value-added taxes;

* aiding and abetting illegal tax evasion or neglect to pay taxes.

The Government's claim went to the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 25.

According to the latest ruling of the court, the term of detention of Anjarvalla and Gambaryan was extended until April 4.

The prosecution insists that individuals used the exchange to launder almost $21.6 billion.
