How a single attack on the supply chain can paralyze dozens of businesses across the country.

PSI Software SE, a German developer of software for complex production and logistics processes, has confirmed that it was the victim of a cyberattack using a ransomware program that affected the internal infrastructure.

The company conducts business on a global level and has a staff of more than 2000 employees. It specializes in developing software solutions for large energy suppliers, and also offers a range of solutions for managing and maintaining finished energy infrastructure, portfolio management, and energy marketing.

On February 15, PSI Software announced a cyberattack directly on the main page of its website, temporarily hiding the rest of its content. Because of the attack, the company had to disable several IT systems, including email, to reduce the risk of data loss.

In a subsequent update, PSI Software confirmed that the cause of the disruption was the actions of cybercriminals using the ransomware program. So far, the company has not been able to determine the exact method of penetration of intruders.

"On the night of February 15, unusual activity was detected in our network. For security reasons, all external connections and systems were immediately disabled, " PSI Software said.

At the moment, there is no evidence that the attacker gained access to client systems, but the investigation is ongoing.

The company did not provide any information about whether the client systems are currently functioning in any form. It is quite possible that all operations of PSI Software clients are also suspended indefinitely, which is especially critical when it comes to the energy industry.

The authorities were informed about the incident, and experts from the Federal Information Security Agency are actively helping the company to minimize the consequences of the incident.

The functionality of all systems will be restored as soon as possible without compromising security.
