Employees of the criminal investigation department of the OMVD of Russia in the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki district of Moscow detained two men suspected of embezzling 1.8 million rubles from an 81-year-old resident of the capital by deception.

It was previously established that at the end of last summer, she received a call on her mobile phone from an unknown man, who, introducing himself as a law enforcement officer, said that scammers were trying to withdraw money from the woman's bank account. To protect her savings, the caller suggested that she withdraw all the available money at the nearest bank branch and transfer it to the courier.

Believing the attacker, the pensioner withdrew more than 1.1 million rubles from the account, and then, following his instructions, transferred the money to the stranger who arrived.

The next day, the victim was contacted again by a false law enforcement officer and, having learned that she had other accounts, recommended that the savings be handled in the same way. Arriving at the bank branch, the grandmother used an ATM to transfer more than 700 thousand rubles to an unidentified bank account of the attackers.

After a while, she realized that she was deceived, and went to the police. The total amount of damage amounted to more than 1.8 million rubles.

According to the police, the detained 27-year-old resident of the Moscow region and 31-year-old visitor are allegedly the organizer of the fraudulent scheme and courier. At present, the involvement of accomplices in 5 similar episodes of illegal activity has been established.

An investigator of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki district of Moscow opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendants were given a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody.
