The man was exposed by employees of the Department of Countering Cybercrime in the Odessa region of the NPU Cyber Police Department together with employees of the investigative department of the State Police in the Odessa region.
The police found that a resident of Odessa created and posted on popular social networks a link to a site whose appearance completely copied the design of the State Aid site under the Epodderzhka program. When citizens clicked on the link with phishing forms for monetary assistance from the state, the attacker received the details of their payment cards: number, CVV code, expiration date, and others.
In the future, having all the necessary information, the offender carried out unauthorized interference in Internet banking and transactions from the victims ' bank accounts.
Thus, the attacker deceived two women and two men from July to September 2023. In general, he caused material damage to the victims in the amount of almost 16 thousand hryvnias.
During the authorized searches at the place of residence of the offender, the police seized mobile phones, computer equipment and other material evidence of illegal activities of the man.
The police detained the defendant in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and informed him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely, taking possession of someone else's property by deception, that is, fraud committed through illegal operations using electronic computing equipment, repeatedly. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.
The court chose the suspect a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 211 thousand UAH.
The investigation continues under the procedural direction of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office. Law enforcement officers establish the full range of persons who could have suffered from the illegal actions of the attacker.
